The 2023 Championships were held at Coxmoor Golf Club on Thursday 25th May. Coxmoor is set in the heart of Sherwood Forest and is an England Golf championship venue. There have been many improvements to the course over the last few years . Every hole is different and with a new clubhouse the whole experience is stunning. The course was presented in superb condition with pins in tricky places. In the morning sunshine the course looked spectacular. Thankyou to the green staff.
With an original entry of 99 players, extra times added and a waiting list, we were all expecting a great tournament. The players didn’t disappoint and although some found the course difficult with the rough quite tough, if you dared to miss the fairways, the top players produced some great scores. Our champion of the day Julie Brown, MVLGA Vice-Captain, produced the best score of the day with a fantastic 75 gross and took the Dorothy Crooke Salver. Best overall net and the Presidents Plate was won by Helena Steward from Spalding with a gross 83, net 71. The Madeline Fyshe trophy for the over 65 was won by Carol Gibbs Wellingborough with 82 gross.
The club and all its staff were very welcoming and a particular thanks go to the volunteers on the desk, the Lady Captain Barbara Henson for all her support and all the players for making this such a great tournament.
