Madeline Fyshe Salver played for by the over 60’s in the MSWGA Championships

In 1950, Madeline Fyshe, together with Dorothy Crooke, started the Midlands Veterans Golf Association. A £2 donation by the county to help start this Association was proposed and accepted.

Madeline originally played in Warwickshire out of Edgbaston and Harborne Golf Clubs.  She won the Warwickshire County Ladies’ Championships in 1932 and 1939 as well as bring Runner Up to Wanda Morgan’s 3rd win in the 1937 English Women’s Amateur Championship played at St. Enodoc GC, Cornwall.

In 1938 she played in the English Team in the Home Internationals played at Burnham & Berrow GC won by Scotland, with their first win since 1910, beating England 6-3.

After W.W.2 she changed her affiliation to Worcestershire playing out of Blackwell GC.  It was from there with her good friend Dos Crooke they were instigators in the forming of the Midland Branch of the Ladies’ Veterans Golf Association in the late 1950’s.

Madeline was President of the MVLGA from 1976-9 and in 1988 presented the Salver to be played alongside the Championship for the over 60’s.

She played in the Jamboree team from 1961 to 1970 and again 10 years later in 1980.  She won the Worcestershire Ladies’ Championship in 1952 and 1954 and was Runner Up in the Midlands Ladies’ Championships in 1953 and 1956.

She was President of Blackwell GC Ladies Section from 1966 – 69 and Worcestershire LCGA from 1977 – 79.

Madeline continued playing right up to her death at the age of 81 with a golf handicap of 6 and remained the holder of the course record of Blackwell GC.
