Sixteen county teams gathered at Gog Magog, from 3rd to 5th October 2022, for the annual Team Championships. They were from Cambs & Hunts, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Shropshire, Norfolk and Leicestershire, with several counties entering 2 Teams. We were in for a great 3 days of competitive golf bringing together 64 players from our association to compete for the Sue Timberlake bowl.

The Wandlebury course looked spectacular with its array of autumn colours. The Lady Captain Lindsey Bellis welcomed all the players and wished us all a good tournament. The players didn’t disappoint and the greensome on day 1 was won, with 41 points, by Nottinghamshire pair of Notts County Captain, Audrey Macmillan and Bernie Barton.

Round 1 and the weather was fabulous. The course was in good condition considering the summer of drought and everyone looked excited at the prospect of posting some good scores, which they certainly did. Julie Brown, MVLGA Vice-Captain and Staffordshire player, posted the best score of day with a level par of 72. She was closesy followed by team mate Debbie Warren with another great score of 74. Staffordshire posted a team score which looked unbeatable.
We all looked forward to evening entertainment with bingo, dinner and Jake Banfield magician. Well, what a fantastic evening we all had. Jake delivered on every level. As many of the players commented, he was very easy on the eye. His magic tricks were incredible and almost unbelievable.

Round 2 came around quickly and off we went in quite blustery but sunny conditions. Staffordshire had taken a commanding lead in the team event and looked unbeatable. This proved the case with Debbie Warren posting the best score of day 72 and taking the individual 36 hole Angel Duck salver from Julie Brown by 1 shot. Staffordshire we’re the winning county with a record breaking total of 452, beating their own record by 9 shots. Nottinghamshire took the Nett team prize.
